  • Molas – Behind the story

    Molas – Behind the story

Molas is an exclusive collection originated on a trip to Kuna Yala tribe, an indigenous community in Panamá.

It is a centennial textile art form, developed by the Kuna women that consist of the superposition of fabrics sewed in beautiful patterns.

This process, all handmade, can be done by cutting multiple layers of the same fabric, between two and seven each time, varying the colors schematics.

One Molas bag can take up one to six months to be finished, depending on the complexity of the project, and that is why every single bag is a piece of art by itself.

Molas means blouse or shirt, and that is its main purpose.

Every design is filled with symbolism like the path of life, the woman fertility or family protection, it is the same drawings in which they used to paint their bodies with.

In the beginning, they were all geometric, but with the passing of time, they began to develop into something else, as a result of popular culture. Therefore, you can see new elements like flowers, birds and sea animals in them.

For our very own bags, we played with colors and geometric shapes, resulting in a very rich and fashionable piece, that embodies all the technique, symbolism, and creativity of this amazing culture.
